Good Research
I argue that good research benefits people, does no harm, and is informative. "Good education research is a matter of not only sound procedures, but also of beneficial aims and results; our ultimate aim as researchers and educators is to serve people's well-being." (Hostetler, 2005).
Good research benefits people through the story it tells. In education, the research we do should make us better educators so that we can provide a better education to our students. In asking research questions, we should always be thinking, how can this improve the lives of those I teach.
Good Research is based on willing participants and as said above should benefit the participant and should not do harm to the participant. As Hostetler said, the ultimate aim is to serve people’s well-being.
Whether or not research answers a question, it should be informative. As the reader, the research should leave us with some answers and some questions. It should push us to look deeper into issues. It should, again, push us to improve.
